Design Project I: M ō is a project within the Future Everydayresearch group, which focuses on technologies such as wearables. Soft materials, additive manufacturing, AI, machine learning, and smart and biomaterials. The project is in line with current trends in the fashion industry, where customization and personalization are becoming increasingly popular. Technological advancements and changes in customer purchase behaviour have driven this trend, and retailers and fashion brands are responding by offering integrated design and production processes that meet customer needs. As customization and personalization of fashion items are expected to become a significant market in the future, retailers and fashion companies are investing in improving the customer experience to increase profitability.
M ō is a project exploring a future shopping experience by developing integrated designs and production processes that cater to the individual needs of customers, effectively turning them into co-designers. The project's ultimate goal is to create highly flexible, individualised products that enhance the customer's appreciation of the garment, increase their satisfaction throughout, and longevity of the garment’s lifecycle.
M ō is a collection of hyper-personalised ready-to-wear coats. The process involves the tactile library which serves as the first input to integrate the customers tactility preferences by choosing material and texture. In the body scan stage, a 3D- scan of the user is made, from this scan the system takes their measurements which are used to create a generative pattern which is tailored precisely to the customer body shape. During the preview stage the system presents the preliminary outcome of the garments by projecting it onto the user, in this stage adjustments to the design can still be made. The final product is then made exactly to the customer's specifications, using the fabric and colour they selected, and tailored to their unique body shape.
